Frequently asked questions

How do I credit an account?

Just click on the « pay my rideshare » icon and answer the questions concerning your trip (number of passengers, number of kilometers covered, etc.).

How is a Win O2 unit calculated?

The value of a WinO2 unit is calculated from statistical elements furnished by INSEE and ADEME. Although this is an indicative value only, it approaches a standard of universal cost. EcoWin members who exchange through an EcoWin account agree to accept this proposed value.

What does a WinO2 unit correspond to?

A WinO2 unit is a unit of exchange value for transportation.

What will my CO2 savings be used for?

First, they enable estimating the effort you make to save CO2. These savings are represented by the drawing of a tree. Next, it is quite possible that an exchange market for private individuals will be put in place, as is already the case for companies. Finally, we can envisage some form of financial encouragement by the government in the long term.

How can I be sure my passenger will credit me with units?

Exchange is based on trust between drivers and passengers. EcoWin cannot be held responsible if one of the two parties reneges on the agreement. However, EcoWin is able to pinpoint those who do not pay and can prohibit them from using the EcoWin site. EcoWin also makes a trust evaluator available for site participants.

Who can access my account and personal data?

You are the only one who can access your account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of transactions made on your account, with or without your password.

How long will it take for me to receive a refund for my units?

You may receive a refund whenever you wish. However, remember that transfers to your bank account carry a charge when they are below a certain amount. It is better to maintain your amount on the site and accumulate units.

Are transfers secure?

Transfers are fully secure and use the “Crédit Mutuel” online banking solution.

Why don’t I save on CO2 when I use my car?

Only “passengers” who have not used their car avoid emitting CO2 and thus are able to obtain credit.

Are CO2 savings recognized by a State agency?

EcoWin has contacted government administrations to obtain aid for taking CO2 credits into account. These savings are already accounted for by ADEME because they are based on the agency’s numbers.

Can I declare my ridesharing for tax purposes if I calculate my actual expenses?

This is possible, but it is your responsibility. Ask for information from your local tax office. If you decide to do this, EcoWin can help you by providing an exhaustive record of all your actions on the site (kilometers traveled, number of times transported, amount spent, etc.).

Will the administration be able to access my personal data?

No, except in the case of a special request by a judicial inquiry commission.

Why should I indicate how many people were on board?

In agreement with the driver and in order to share expenses, you should indicate the number of passengers at the appropriate place on the website.

If we were a certain number of people on one part of the itinerary and less on another part, what should we do?

The system will automatically divide the distance traveled by the maximum number of passengers on the total itinerary. If you were three people over 10 km and then two for the rest of the trip, you should enter three as the number.

On a 100-km trip with a driver and other passengers, I was on board for only 20 km How much should I pay?

The system will automatically divide the distance you rode (i.e., 20 km) by the number of passengers indicated for the total trip.

I don’t have a car. Can I still save on CO2 when I rideshare?

Since you do not have a car, you cannot enter data to calculate CO2 consumption; however, EcoWin will attribute you with CO2 savings based on an average consumption of equivalent CO2 per kilometer.

The person I shared (or should have shared) a ride with was dishonest. Can I be refunded or paid? What should I do to call attention to this?

EcoWin does not intervene in personal disputes. However, you can notify us of the problem, which will lower the trust rating of the person incriminated.

How many kilometers does it take for a tree to grow? What does this correspond to?

A tree recycles around 225 kg of CO2 during its lifetime. In other words, if your vehicle produces 220 grams of CO2 per kilometer, you save a tree every 1022 km when you share a ride! (220 g times 1022 km = 225 kg )
